So…thinking about joining our Lodge? You’ve made the right decision. We believe that we are one of the friendliest lodges in London. In common with Freemasonry, lodges are male or female. We are a male only lodge, but there are Women’s lodges too.

Throughout 300 years of heritage and history, Freemasons have come from all walks of life and each with their own unique story to tell for why they became a Freemason. As one of the oldest social and charitable organisations in the world, we have a thriving community of approximately 170,000 members throughout England and Wales, as well as Districts overseas. Freemasons use four key values to help define their path through life: Integrity, Friendship, Respect and Service.

Membership is open to people from all backgrounds and our aim is to empower members to be the best they can be.

There are several ways to become a Freemason. If you don’t know anyone who is a member and that you can talk to, then your first step is to contact your nearest Lodge.

Re- joining

If you’re interested in re-joining Freemasonry, you can also join us or locate your preferred area as set out above.

Our Lodge celebrates its centenary in 2026, so it is a good time to be a member of our Lodge.

Make Lifelong Friends: From the Universities Scheme and New and Young Masons Clubs, to special interest Lodges, Freemasonry gives members many opportunities to make a wide circle of friends for life. Finding bonds with people who share common interests and meeting people from all different backgrounds are just some of the ways Freemasonry can help cultivate lasting friendships.

Reach your full potential: Freemasonry is all about building character and supporting members as individuals. It’s these foundations that allow members to develop themselves, from increased self-confidence to transferable skills such as public speaking.

Be a valued member of society: Whether participating in events, fundraising for a charitable cause or volunteering for public or community organisations, service is at the very heart of Freemasonry. Our members make valuable contributions by donating time, resources and skills.

Membership is open to any man over the age of 18 irrespective of their race or religion. In total, we have more than 7,000 Lodges, with students able to join one of 87 University Scheme Lodges. Women are invited to join one of two female-only Grand Lodges: The Order of Women Freemasons and Freemasonry for Women.

SPECIAL INTEREST LODGES

As well as joining a local lodge, you can also join a Special Interest Lodge. These are formed by members to enjoy their shared interests and hobbies, there are many special interest Lodges you can join in Freemasonry throughout the country to enrich the social calendar.

From football to rugby, through to military and emergency services to list but a few, special interest Lodges are another great way of meeting new people and there is almost certainly something for everyone.

Special interest Lodges were historically formed through a common interest or purpose and they continue to exist today. Members of one such Lodge, Lux in Tenebris Lodge No. 3856 in London, for example, are all blind and its name is taken from the Latin for ‘light in darkness’ and it is one of a vast number of specialist Lodges found throughout the country.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the special interest Lodges we have throughout the country.
