A CATALYST LODGE
A “Catalyst Lodge” is one that acts as a model or accelerator for growth within its local Province (county-level administration). Their primary unofficial role is to:
Implement Best Practices: They are early and enthusiastic adopters of UGLE’s recommended strategies for membership attraction, retention, and engagement (the “Members’ Pathway”).
Reverse Decline: They successfully reverse membership decline by focusing on recruitment, creating an enjoyable, vibrant, and engaging experience for both new and existing members.
Embrace Change: They are willing to adapt traditions, such as meeting times, formats, or social events, to be more appealing to a modern, younger demographic.

2. Characteristics of a “Catalyst Lodge”
These Lodges are often characterised by:
Strong Membership Teams: They have dedicated, proactive officers (like a Membership Officer and Mentors) who shepherd new candidates through the joining process and ensure new members are engaged.
Focus on Enjoyment: The meetings and, crucially, the festive board (the meal after the meeting) are vibrant, social, and fun, fostering a strong sense of camaraderie.
Transparency and Openness: They are typically more active in their communications, using social media, websites, and open evenings to showcase the positive aspects of Freemasonry.
Diverse Membership: They often attract a wider mix of ages and professions than some traditional Lodges, leading to a dynamic atmosphere.
